For guests who like to shop there is the main car-free street of Corso Umberto where visitors can enjoy high-end fashion outlets as well as elegant antiquities and jewellery shops. Along the Corso you can also find shops selling typical Sicilian products such as handmade ceramics and textiles, as well as local wines and gourmet products.
If you enjoy sports, local beaches offer sailing, fishing, paragliding, snorkelling and scuba-diving. On nearby Mt. Etna one can trek, ski, and play golf. The Alcantara Gorges are great for body rafting and canyoning, while closer to home, Taormina Botanical Gardens has a tennis club open to visitors.
If you are looking for peace and quiet, the town's library in Piazza IX Aprile is housed in a Gothic building dating from the 15th century. It is open to the public and, as well as offering important antique books about Sicily, the library includes an exhibition of local folkloric artefacts.
Finally, if you really want to feel at ease, take a seat at one of the many open-air cafes. Forget about electronic screen tasks, order a cappuccino or apertivo, enjoy the piano playing, the life on the Corso and the sweet atmosphere of Taormina.
